AutoSSL is a free alternative to paid SSL certificates. With AutoSSL, your sites are automatically secured with a free, Domain Validated (DV) SSL certificate by Sectigo. Your SSL certificate stays up-to-date and auto-renews on your behalf. Recently, due to the amount of AutoSSL’s that are in use, there have been significant delays in issuing the Free SSL certificates which expire. Support from the issuer is also not offered for these Free SSL certificates which are set to renew every 90 days.
While we understand that Free SSL certificates are appealing, however, we do not recommend using these certificates for a few reasons. The lack of support is a concern as there are often errors with the store that can not be resolved with support of the provider. Another concern is that the certificates are on a 90 days renewal schedule which give more opportunities for delays in issuing and your site/email being unavailable.
