Creating A Website With Cpanel

cPanel includes many options that help you to create the website that fits your needs regardless of your experience level. If you’re familiar with HTML, CSS or other Web programming, you can hand-code a website from scratch with cPanel’s file manager. Otherwise, cPanel is capable of installing scripts like WordPress, a powerful content management tool which lets you create an entire blog or website with just a few clicks.

How to use the File Manage to create a website

  1. Log in to your cPanel account in your browser with the username and password. If you do not know your username/password, email Support@olm.net for assistance or go to the following link to have a password reset link sent to you:          Https://ReplacewithYourdomain.com/cpanel

  1. Click the “File Manager” icon from the main page. If prompted, select “public_html” as your desired location, because this is where you need to place files to make them available online.

  1. Click the “New File” icon to create a new file. Create the front page on your site. This file should be named “index.html”

A basic index file might look something like the following:

<html> <head> <title>Welcome to my site</title> </head> <body> <h1>Welcome</h1> <p>I’m glad you could make it. Click <a href=”about.html”>here</a> to learn more about me.</p> </body> </html>

  1. Save your file. Repeat the process to add more files. Remember to use hyperlinks to link between all your files. You can also select “HTML Editor” to use the cPanel File Managers on screen point and click editor which allows you to edit the page created using a Word like interface.

Here are some things to keep in mind when using WordPress.

  • WordPress is a 3rd party application. We provide support for the basic installation on the server, not the actual WordPress software.

  • WordPress is widely used and has extensive help available.

  • We recommend keeping WordPress updated to the latest release, not only to take advantage of new features as they are available, but to apply security updates and patches.
