ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) is the regulatory body for domain registrations. ICANN was formed in 1998. It is a not-for-profit partnership of people from all over the world dedicated to keeping the Internet secure, stable, and interoperable. It promotes competition and develops policy on the Internet’s unique identifiers.
One of the requirements ICANN has is that registrars verify the email address on file yearly.
An email is sent to the email address on file with a subject line:
Verify your contact information for (Your domain)
The email contains a link you must go to verify the email address is valid. You only need to do this once if you have multiple domains.
If you do not verify your email address, your domain is deactivated so it is important that you lookout for the email reminders to verify and keep an email address on file that is checked regularly.
If your domain is deactivated and you need to update your email address, please contact us so we can offer assistance.
