Using Secure Passwords

A strong password is your first line of defense against hackers. Here are some tips to create a strong password.

  • Select a password is at least 8 characters and consists of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and punctuation.
  • Make sure the password used is not a dictionary word. For example, you do not want to use “Password” as your password.
  • Use an online password generator to help create a password like https://www.random.org/passwords/

You can also use a service like RoboForm or LastPass to help manage your password.

Roboform – https://www.roboform.com/password-manager
LastPass – https://www.lastpass.com/

Both RoboForm and Last pass, password managers organize and encrypt your passwords so you only have to memorize your master password (The password used to access the password manager).

Both the Roboform and LastPass managers are excellent, Roboform has a small yearly fee to purchase and LastPass if Free.

Another option would be to think of a funny sentence, for example, “My Pet Pig Once Ate 10 Marbles!”, and then use the first letter of each word as well as the numbers and punctuation to make a secure password that is easy to remember. (Mppoa10m!)
